JO Volleyball Frequently Asked Questions

After reading through these questions and answers, you have additional questions, please contact Lisa at info@gocrossfire.org or call 763-390-6604 (new #). Please leave a detailed message if your call is not answered.

How much does it cost to play for Crossfire?
The cost varies greatly depending on which team/level you tryout and are selected for. Our highest level teams range from $1375 for 12’s to $2250 for 18’s. Our Winter teams range from $760-$795 and our Club level teams range from $385-$420. These fees include everything except optional apparel and additional tournaments that some coaches might choose to participate in once the teams are selected. Complete pricing is can be found on our Program Information page.

What is the difference between “Full”, “Winter”, “Club” and “Spring”?
Full season teams are our highest level, most competitive teams. They will practice 2x per week, which includes strength and agility training at Velocity or on location at Grace Fellowship Church. They are in two levels: Full I (our 1's teams) and Full II (our 2's and 3's teams). There will NOT be Full Season "Area" teams for 2011-12.

Winter and Spring teams (or "Area" Teams) have a shortened season, ending in mid-March or mid-May. They will practice 2x per week and attend 5-6 tournaments (mixture between Saturday and Sunday tournaments) and will play in the Presidents Day Festival (winter teams only). These teams are generally quite competitive and are made up of multi-sport athletes that need a shorter season, lower cost or were not selected for a Full Season team.
“Club” is a No-Cut program we introduced in 2009-10. This program is intended for a beginning level volleyball player or one that chooses not participate in tryouts or did not make one of the Full or Winter/"Area" teams. This year, it is our desire for these teams to practice 2x per week, once at Velocity and once at Plymouth Covenant Church. We are still in the process of confirming these arrangements. More details will be posted as soon as we know. They will play in 3-4 Saturday competitions.

Do I have to play for a certain school to play for Crossfire?
No. We have players from all over the Twin Cities that play for us. Our Winter and Spring teams practice in locations other than Velocity so players from certain schools close to those practice locations may choose to all try out for that area, but are not limited to those teams.

When do I find out if I made a team?
You will find out the night/day of the tryout if you are selected for a team. If you are trying out for Full season and are not selected, you may attend the Winter team try outs for whichever area you choose.

When do I have to make my first payment?
NEW THIS YEAR (2011-12) players will be asked to decide before leaving tryouts if they are playing on the team they are selected for. There will be a non-refundable deposit required to secure your spot on the team.

Can I be on a payment plan?
New this year, you will be asked to make a $400-$600 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit immediately after tryouts. Then you will be asked to make 3 equal payments in Jan, Feb and March, payble through your online account. If other arrangements need to be made, you will need to work that out with our bookkeeper, Sheila.
Her email is accounting@gocrossfire.org

Can I try out “up” an age group?
No. We want players to play with girls their age and move up with them. There have been some extenuating circumstances that have allowed/required a player to move up but these situations are an exception and not the rule and have usually been discussed with our director, Chris Hunt and determined prior to tryouts. Crossfire coaches will decide at tryouts if a player should be moved up to the next level. Please don't send us a summary of your daughters' accomplishments and request that she try out for an older age group. We will find out at tryouts and make decisions then. Thank you for your cooperation with this.

Can I play with my friends?
This is not a guarantee. Our coaches will choose the best 10 players per team for that level of team. You might be on the same team as your friends but you might not. In our Club level program, we allow friends to request to be put on the same team, and we do our best to accommodate this,  but again it is not a guarantee.

Are the teams “pre-selected”?
No. Everyone that tries out has an equal chance to be looked at for the highest level team. Every year the pool of players changes and improves so coaches will be looking for “new” talent as well as players they might know from previous seasons.

If I have to quit my team, can I get a refund?
There are NO refunds given for the tryout fee. Also, for athletes who commit to a team there will be no refund of a deposit or a reduction of the team fee unless a replacement player is found.  In the event of a season-ending injury or illness a partial refund MAY be given in certain situations.
