I've had many goals during my life ranging from silly to serious, like owning a pet monkey and a motorcycle, to smuggling Bibles into China. Thanks to Crossfire I've been able to cross two other significant goals off my list - coaching teen girls and mentoring them. Coaching provides an outlet for my endless energy and passion for athletics. It has also proved a launching pad for a journey into mentoring younger girls. Looking over the last 26 years I can honestly say that Crossfire has been one of the highlights of my life.
I count it a great privilege to have coached for an organization committed to excellence on and off the court. Each practice was an opportunity to use basic skills as a building block for character, integrity and perseverance. I'll never forget the fun I had with my girls, cheering them on to the victories and encouraging them through the losses. Though great memories were made on the court, the most significant times for me took place on the bleachers during devotions, at team parties and sleepovers - and continue still with phone calls and emails I continue to receive from players.
Though coaching volleyball is a passion, it pails in comparison to the fervor I possess for the girls themselves. While their culture goes quickly downhill, I feel an urgency to forge upward, paving the way for others to follow. All young people hold a special place in my heart, but there is no one I would rather pour my time and energy into than a teenaged girl, struggling to find her identity and place in the world.
My zeal to be a role model has led me to pursue motivational speaking with an emphasis on abstinence and sexual purity. My motivation stems form my faith in and commitment to Jesus Christ. I desire for others to know Him personally and experience the abundant life He came to give.
