11U-18U elite teams require a tryout. 13U-18U athletes will be asked to select their preference for either a national or regional team.
NOTE: Indicating a preference for a national team does not guarantee a national team placement if a spot of offered at tryouts.
15U-18U short season teams require a tryout and are local teams only. 10U-14U short seasons teams do not require a tryout and are local teams only.
National Teams (tryout required, season runs Nov to June)
The highlight and final competitive event of the season for national teams is the AAU Girls National Championship in Orlando, Florida, in June. National teams will play in at least two other regional events in Wisconsin, Iowa, or Rochester, MN. Several local events in the metro twin cities area will also be part of the tournament schedule, including Molten Series, Big City Luau, President's Day Challenge and Northern Lights Qualifier. Depending on the number of athletes who express interest, there may be between 1 and 3 national teams at each age level.
Note: Athletes on 13U and 14U elite teams will travel and stay with their parents for all travel tournaments, including AAU in Orlando. 15U to 18U elite teams will stay together in a rented house with parent chaperones for AAU in Orlando.
Regional Teams (tryout required, season runs Nov to May)
Participating in at least two competitive events outside of the metro twin cities area, regional teams will conclude their season prior to Memorial Day weekend. Possible tournament locations are Wisconsin, Iowa, or Rochester, MN. Several local events in the metro twin cities area will also be part of the tournament schedule, including Molten Series, Big City Luau and President's Day Challenge. Those who indicate their preference for a regional team will not be considered for a national team.
Local Teams (season runs Nov to late Feb or early March)
Local, short season teams are ideal for athletes who play a spring sport or for those who want a positive team experience at a lower overall cost. Starting in November and concluding by late February or early March, these short season teams will participate in tournaments of league events in the metro twin cities area.
